40 drugs approved for UAE; prices of 150 others set by MoH

Drugs Pricing and Registration Higher Committee approves 40 new innovative drugs

DUBAI 8 April 2017: The Ministry of Health Drugs Pricing and Registration Higher Committee has approved 40 new innovative medicines in a meeting held in Dubai.

The committee has also approved prices of 150 pharmaceutical products, according to the new pricing mechanisms, and endorsed the price increase of 16 medicines as per GCC prices.

Dr. Amin Hussain Al Amiri, Assistant Under-Secretary for Public Health Policy and Licensing and Chairman of the committee, said it approved the drugs, which had met strict pharmaceutical requirements set by international organisations including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, FDA, and European Medicines Agency, EMA.

“The newly approved medicines treat tumours, respiratory system, skin diseases, ophthalmia, high blood pressures and diabetes,” he explained.

He added that the UAE has almost reached self-sufficiency in generic medicines as 16 pharmaceutical plants are producing more than 1,000 drugs.

He said the ministry is planning to raise the number of plants to 34 by 2020, an indicator of the booming pharmaceutical industry in the UAE.
