UAE National Sports Day on Thursday
DUBAI (WAM) — UAE Rugby is hosting 4 touch-rugby festivals across the Emirates as part of celebrations for UAE National Sports Day on Thursday, February 16th.
Over 570 boys and girls are expected to compete in the Emirates-wide festival.
At the Sevens Stadium in Dubai, 160 youths will take up the game, while at the Sheikha Hind Hall, 170 14-to-18-year-old girls from across 8 schools will compete in an inter-schools Touch Rugby festival.
In the Northern Emirates, 140 boys will participate at the Al Dhaid Sports Club, and the Al Ain Rugby Club, in Al Ain, will see 100 Under-14 girls play the game.
Qais Al Dhalai, UAE Rugby Secretary-General, said, “This is an outstanding vision and directive of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and one that UAE Rugby is whole-heartedly committed to.”
“The importance and goals of the National Sports Day is to promote and instill respect for all nationalities that live in the UAE, and, through sports, encourage all individuals to take the values of team cohesiveness and self-pride into their daily lives. We aim, through the values of our game, to assist in achieving this goal” added Al Dhalai.
Dubai Sports Council unveil details of 2nd UAE National Sports Day
Dubai Sports Council (DSC) unveiled details of the various events of the 2nd UAE National Sports Day, to be organised as per the directives of Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
The National Sports Day boosts the culture of the exercise of sport among all individuals and shares in attaining harmony and concord among the various classes of society.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Chairman of the National Olympic Committee, has ratified Thursday, 16th February, as a date for the Event under title “Emirates Brings Us Together”.
The UAE National Sports Day is arranged simultaneously with the celebrations of the GCC’s States on the occasion of the Gulf National Sports Week.
The National Sports Day’s details were announced in a press conference, convened Tuesday 14th Feb. 2017 at DSC’s premises.
The press conference was addressed by Saeed Hareb, the Secretary-General of DSC, and Major General Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al-Raisi, Head of the Working Committee of the National Sports Day, in the presence of Nasser Aman Al-Rahma, the Assistant-Secretary General of DSC, several directors of departments in DSC, members of the Working Committee of the Event and representatives of several entities, which are decided to arrange events during the National Sports Day.
Saeed Hareb stated that DSC is keen to organise successful events on the occasion of the National Sports Day, confirming full coordination with the Higher Committee of the Event and all other respective corporations to ensure successful organising for the various events of the Day.
He explained that the Organising Committee is keen to arrange various entertaining, promotional, social and competitive activities besides cultural and awareness programs, focusing on the health, environment, folklore and heritage fields.
He confirmed that the various events of the UAE National Sports Day to take place in different locations of Dubai with participation of all classes of society.
He pointed out that the UAE National Sports Day, held under title “Emirates Brings Us Together”, is organised to achieve several goals; top of which are to boost the culture of the exercise of sport among all individuals and to contribute in attaining harmony and concord among the various classes of society.
“The National Sports Day is a unique opportunity for all individuals to express love to the UAE. It is a convenient occasion to confirm our loyalty to the homeland, which accommodates all residents and provides them all with decent life,”he added.
Major General Al-Raisi remarked: “The generous initiative of the National Sports Day is launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Accordingly, we need to exert hard efforts and innovate new thoughts & proposals to serve this noble Event.”
“We have arranged several visits throughout the last period to various governmental, private and social entities, which have all showed wide response and confirmed keenness to support the National Sports Day and to share in achieving its supreme goals targeting all classes of society. We are keen to organize distinctive events and competitions in collaboration with the strategic partners of the Event to reflect the prestigious status of the UAE,” he added.
He concluded: “The sport role is not only to exercise sports and physical activities, but it is also considered as a fundamental element to boost social ties and other life affairs, besides its vital role to prevent diseases and create a healthy community which is able to meet the promising goals. I thank DSC for providing this opportunity, which enables us to be aware of the various activities & programs of this eminent social Event in Dubai”.
The National Sports Day is organised with participation of 46 governmental, private corporations, universities and clubs which are decided to organise more than 80 various events in different locations of Dubai, targeting individuals of various ages and multi-nationalities.
DSC will organise walkathon, aerobic classes besides chess, table tennis, badminton and tug of war competitions. Participants will catch the opportunity to exercise free physical activities at the Gym of Dubai Design District throughout the Day.
