FUJAIRAH, 2 April 2017: Sheikh Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi, Deputy Ruler of Fujairah, who passed away aged 79, contributed to serving and elevating the UAE and worked for that noble goal with dedication and commitment.
Condolences have poured in from Arab and GCC leaders.
His record is filled with bright achievements, rich national accomplishments and immortal actions that have affected the political, social and humanitarian life of Fujairah over the course of more than 50 years, which started with his appointment as Minister of State under Federal Decree No. 3 in 1971 by Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, based on the suggestion of the Prime Minister. He later became the deputy for H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, in 1976.
During his time as the Deputy Ruler of Fujairah, he assumed the position of Chairman of the Municipal Council in 1984, playing an effective role in achieving economic and service development in Fujairah.
Sheikh Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi, who was born in 1938 in Fujairah, grew up with the love of giving and was known for his wisdom, bravery and ability to spread peace and order, and his desire and monitoring of the affairs of Fujairah’s citizens, and for providing them with the hope of a dignified life.
The date 2nd December is considered one of the most important events witnessed by him as he watched the determination from Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, as they turned the idea of the union of the United Arab Emirates into reality and worked with love and will for the Federation of the Emirates to be a unique experience in the region.
He contributed to the process of nation-building and the journey of giving since the beginning of his life by focussing on schools and spreading education and providing the most sophisticated services in all fields.
Belief in Education
He encouraged those who sought education out of his belief in the role of education in building humans and society and forming a civilised awareness in other countries. He was always present on all occasions to honour students who excelled.
He met citizens and checked with them about their needs and made sure they were doing well. He heard their demands and needs of essential services in their areas so they could have a dignified life filled with stability, security and welfare.
God rest the soul of Sheikh Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi and grant him mercy in Paradise. He left behind the memory of a man who said and did so that the country and citizen were his top priority.
Fujairah and RAK Rulers perform funeral prayers
H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, and H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, performed funeral prayers on Thursday at the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Fujairah, on the body of the late Sheikh Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi, who passed away on Wednesday evening.
Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman; Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah; Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince of Ras Al Khaimah; Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of the Culture and Knowledge Development; Sheikh Saleh bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Chairman of the Industry and Economy Department of Fujairah; Sheikh Rashid bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Chairman of the Fujairah Culture and Media Authority and Deputy Chairman of the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone, FOZ; Sheikh Maktoum bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi; and sons of the deceased, Sheikh Saif bin Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi, Free Zone Authority Chairman; Sheikh Eng. Mohamed bin Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi, Head of e-Government; Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi; and Sheikh Murwan bin Rashid Al Mu’alla, Chairman of the Lands and Properties Department in Umm Al Qaiwain, also attended the prayers, said Wam.
The funeral prayers were also attended by a number of Sheikhs, ministers, senior officials and several citizens and residents.
The Ruler of Fujairah was accompanied by Their Highnesses, Sheikhs and officials, and a number of ministers, citizens and residents headed to the Fujairah cemetery, where the body was lowered into the grave. They asked Allah Almighty to rest his soul in peace and bestow patience and solace on his family.
H.H Sheikh Hamad will accept the condolences with effect from Thursday’s afternoon (Asr) prayers for the next three days at his Rumailah Palace.
A three-day mourning period was declared in the emirate of Fujairah. UAE flags will be flown at half mast during the mourning period.
