DUBAI 3 April 2017: A large fire at a building under construction in Downtown Dubai, was brought under control yesterday afternoon. A pall of smoke hung long after.
No injuries were reported as the work crew was safely evacuated by the Dubai Civil Defence.
The fire engulfed the construction site just across the road from the world’s largest shopping mall by retail spaces – Dubai Mall.
A pall of thick black smoke hovered for hours over Dubai’s iconic skyline with the Burj Khalifa soaring in the background.
On New Year’s Eve in 2015, a fire had broken out at the Address Hotel, which too is a few metres away from the site of yesterday’s fire.
But swift action by Dubai authorities ensured it was brought under control well in time for the amazing New Year fireworks to roll out at the stroke of midnight.
