No Haj permit for UAE expatriates

Expats need to obtain permits from their home countries

Expats in UAE will henceforth have to travel to their home countries in order to proceed to Haj. The UAE will not grant Haj permits to expatriate residents, according to the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments (Awfaq).

Only citizens of UAE will be issued permits to perform the pilgrimage this year and the following year.

The new rule is to maintain stricter national quotas, according to reports in local media.  The decision by Saudi Arabia is applicable to all countries across the world.

According to officials, Haj operators have been informed about the new rule.
