DUBAI 18 September 2017: The UAE Athletics Federation will organise several running competitions across the country, including an international race to celebrate the Year of Zayed in 2018, to honour the memory of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
The federation called on all UAE citizens and residents to participate in these sporting events, said Wam.
The UAE Athletics Federation invited Lord Sebastian Coe, President of the International Association of Athletics Federations, IAAF, and several council members, to attend the international race.
Ahmed Al Kamali, Member of the Executive Bureau of the IAAF and President of the UAE Athletics Federation, and one of the founders of the Zayed International Marathon, stated that 2nd November, 2004, is an unforgettable day for all Arab and Islamic people, as it marks the death of the late Sheikh Zayed, may he rest in peace, the leader, the teacher and the founder of the Union, after four decades of achievements.
He added that they will hold a press conference in the coming days to announce the launch of the organising committee for these competitions, which will be chaired by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development.
Saleh Mohammed Hassan, Secretary-General of UAE Athletics Federation, said that the supreme organising committee of the races will hold several joint coordination meetings, while emphasising that the planned international race will be a major festival that will witness the participation of top international runners.
