UAE Harmony: Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Mosque renamed ‘Mariam, Mother of Issa’

Mohamed order to promote social connections between followers of different religions

ABU DHABI 15 June 2017: His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has ordered the renaming of the Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Mosque in Al Mushrif area to “Mariam, Mother of Issa”, Peace be upon him, to promote the social connections between followers of different religions and strengthen common characteristics between the divine religions.

Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of State for Tolerance, expressed her appreciation to Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed for his wise directions to implement this initiative, which reflects his pure humanity and portrays a bright image of the real tolerance and coexistence in the UAE, said Wam.

She highlighted the fact that changing the name of the Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Mosque to the “Mariam, Mother of Issa” Mosque has tolerant and human qualities, especially as this event coincides with the Zayed Humanitarian Work day on the 19th of Ramadan. She also noted that the mosque is located in a place that reflects the values of tolerance, brotherhood and co-existence, as this location includes many civilised places of worship, reflecting the mission of tolerance of the UAE’s leadership, government and people.

Sheikha Lubna praised the numerous humanitarian initiative of Sheikh Mohamed and his desire to promote the values of tolerance between different nationalities and cultures. She also stressed that Sheikh Mohamed was inspired to follow the approach of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Dr. Mohammed Matar Al Kaabi, Chairman of the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments, expressed his appreciation to Sheikh Mohamed for this initiative while highlighting that the wise leadership was always keen, since the nation’s establishment by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, to promote tolerance and coexistence for all people living in the UAE.

“This journey was completed by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed as there are people from over 200 nationalities currently living in the UAE, who enjoy security, peace and co-existence, as our holy religion urges us to follow justice, respect others and co-operate in giving with other people,” he added.
